Work backwards from the arrival date

Choose a realistic arrival date, then plan the health papers, quarantine, flight or road trip, insurance and handover.

Weather, competition dates and public holidays can all change the best time to travel.

Decide who is responsible

Write down who books and pays for each step, when the horse becomes the buyer's responsibility and what happens if the trip is delayed.

Send the new stable the horse's feed, medicine, shoeing, vaccine and care information before arrival.

Give the horse time to settle

Keep the horse's routine as familiar as possible. Allow recovery time before asking for hard work or judging the new partnership.
